Local Artist, Aly Campos', December Project

Santa Barbara Paint Depot supports the arts and local artists. Local artist, Aly Campos, has been coloring the world with Benjamin Moore Paints, and we love to support her work by showcasing her on our blogs.

From her own words, Aly shares her latest mural.

Recently a family member of mine reached out to me with a mural idea, to recreate an old photo of her daughters. However, the placement for the mural was going to be a specific portion of her outdoor fence that you could see through the window of her dining room. So when you looked out, instead of just seeing a fence, she would see her girls!

I thought it was an amazing idea and got right to work! The photo I had was older so it was a bit blurry. I took the design and used my

usual shadow technique to create a draft of them, with line work to signify the water. We wanted to keep it simple with colors so we chose to go with black and white to offset the brown of the fence.

Colors used:

● Matte black

● White

I mixed the two colors to get my three versions of gray to create dimensions in the girls. I added a bit of ocean spray to the white background and finished with a light gray shadow underneath each of the girls. I went back into the house to view the mural from there and it was perfect!
